WEST COAST PREMIERE OF "DARK PLAY OR STORIES FOR BOYS" OPENS OCTOBER 13 AT BOSTON COURT

PASADENA, Calif., September 17, 2007 Ð The Theatre @ Boston Court presents the October 13th west coast premiere of Carlos Murillo's "dark play or stories for boys" on the Main Stage at Boston Court, 70 North Mentor Avenue. The play is directed by Michael Michetti, the theatre company's co-artistic director.

"dark play or stories for boys" is a tale of deception, fluid personality, and sexual license in the chat rooms of the World Wide Web. A young boy's Internet identity starts out as a harmless fiction, but once his virtual relationship steps into the realm of real space, this tale of obsession, love, and betrayal spirals out of control with catastrophic consequences.

The cast includes: Stewart W. Calhoun, a recent graduate of the Theatre School at DePaul University where he played in a workshop production of "dark play" as well as performed in a staged reading of the play at the Goodman Theatre as part of the Chicago Latino Theatre Festival; Adam Hunter, a recent graduate of CalArts, who created, produced and acted in "Standing Alone," featured at the 2005 Edinburgh Fringe Festival; Danielle Jones, another recent CalArts graduate whose credits include NBC's "West Wing: 20 Hours in America" and the independent film "An Actress Prepares;" Johnathan McClain, who last performed at Boston Court in "Cold/Tender," was recently the Gentleman Caller in the Colony Theatre's "Glass Menagerie," and who has an extensive list of New York stage, television and film credits; and Bethany Pagliolo, whose theatre credits include the national tour of "Mamma Mia" and various regional theatres, including Helena in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at the Old Globe Theatre.

Creative team includes Donna Marquet, scenic design, Rachel Myers, costume design, Lap-Chi Chu, lighting design, Cricket Myers, sound design, Austin Switzer, video design, Becca Coffman, hair and makeup, Lena Garcia, props, Jennifer Epps, assistant director, Michael Donovan, CSA, casting, Christopher Komura, key art, and Rebecca Cohn, production stage manager.

Playwright Murillo wrote "Unfinished American Highwayscape #9 & 32," an Ovation Award-winning play that received its world premiere in The Theatre at Boston Court's third season. "Unfinished American Highwayscape #9 & 32" and "dark play" were both presented in successive years at the theatre's play reading series, and "dark play" received its world premiere at the 2007 Humana Festival of New American Plays. Some of Murillo's other plays include "Mimesophobia," "A Human Interest Story," and "Schadenfreude." His work has been seen at South Coast Rep's Hispanic Playwrights Project, the Sundance Institute, the Public Theatre, the Bay Area Playwrights Festival, A.S.K. Theatre Projects, Madison Rep, and others. He is twice a recipient of the Rockefeller Foundation MAP grant, a Jerome Fellowship from the Playwrights' Center, the 1996 National Latino Playwriting Award, and was recently inducted as a resident playwright with New Dramatists. He lives in Chicago and teaches at the Theatre School of DePaul University.

Michetti most recently directed The Theatre @ Boston Court's world premiere musical, Eric Whitacre's "Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings," and he has directed the theatre's productions of "A Picture of Dorian Gray," "Pera Palas," "Summertime," and its inaugural production of "Romeo and Juliet: Antebellum New Orleans, 1836."  His diverse credits include many award-winning productions at some of the Southland's leading theatres.
