THE THEATRE @ BOSTON COURT ANNOUNCES WORLD PREMIERE OF "THE WINCHESTER HOUSE"

PASADENA, Calif., April 26, 2006 Ð The Theatre @ Boston Court presents the world premiere of Julia Cho's "The Winchester House," directed by internationally renowned director Chay Yew May 13 on the Main Stage at Boston Court, 70 North Mentor.

In "The Winchester House," rising star Cho lays bare the strategies we use to hide from ourselves as she unravels the unreliable fabric of memory. We've all got one story to tell, the story that helps explain who we are and how we got there. When she's given a chance to confront her past, Via has a choice: will she go on telling the same old story or have the courage to tell a new one?

Via is played by stage, movie and TV actress Kimiko Gelman, who has had leading stage roles at East West Players, San Jose Rep, Seattle Rep, Santa Fe Rep, and whose TV credits include "CSI Miami," "For the People," "The Division," "The West Wing," and "Chicago Hope." Film credits include "AI: Artificial Intelligence," "Minority Report," and "Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss."

Other key roles are played by Arye Gross, whose Broadway credits include "Brooklyn Boy," and who has played leading roles at East West Players, South Coast Repertory, the Antaeus Company, and Pasadena Playhouse. He is seen regularly on TV, including "Law and Order: C.I.," and "CSI."

Other cast members include: Dian Kobayashi, Nelson Mashita, Scott Rodarte, Greg Watanabe, and Laura Wernette. Creative staff includes Susan Gratch, scenic design, José López, lighting design, Dori Quan, costume design, and John Zalewski, sound design.

Award-winning playwright Cho is a member of New Dramatists and her plays include: "BFE" (Longwharf Theater & Playwrights Horizons); "Durango" (O'Neill Playwrights Conference and the Ojai Playwrights Conference); "The Architecture of Loss" (New York Theatre Workshop); "99 Histories" (Cherry Lane Alternative, Theater Mu); and "Bay and the Spectacles of Doom" (La Jolla Playhouse's POP Tour).

Jessica Kubzansky, co-artistic director for The Theatre @ Boston Court, says, "Because an important part of our mission is to nurture and develop new plays and playwrights, it is our special thrill to be able to present this world premiere by Julia Cho, an exciting playwright we have long been passionate about."

Yew is both a playwright and director whose original works include "A Winter People," which received its American Premiere at Boston Court during its inaugural season, "Red" and the "Whitelands Trilogy" ("Porcelain," "A Language of Their Own," and "Wonderland"); his adaptations include the Mark Taper Forum's "The House of Bernarda Alba." Yew, who directs around the country and internationally, is an alumnus of New Dramatists and he serves on the boards of Theatre Communications Group and Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers.

The Theatre @ Boston Court is the non-profit theatrical production company that programs for the Main Stage in the Boston Court performing arts complex in Pasadena. "The Winchester House" is the second play in the award-winning company's third season. Z. Clark Branson is the developer of the complex and founding director of The Theatre @ Boston Court. Eileen T'Kaye is executive director, Michael Seel is producing director, Cheryl Rizzo is managing director, and Michael Michetti and Kubzansky are the co-artistic directors.
