OPENING WEEKENDS OF MUSIC AT THE COURT JAZZ SERIES FEATURE HEADLINERS ERNIE WATTS AND BILL CUNLIFFE




PASADENA, Calif., May 4, 2009 – Boston Court Performing Arts Center presents jazz greats Ernie Watts, Bill Cunliffe and more during the opening weekends of the Spring Jazz Series of the 2009 Music at the Court season at Boston Court Performing Arts Center, 70 North Mentor.
The series kicks off Friday, May 8, 8:30 p.m. with a jazz quartet led by pianist Larry Karush, a riveting improviser and composer, drawing together disparate elements to constantly recreate himself. On Saturday, May 9, 8:00 p.m., a quartet led by long-time Music at the Court favorite and Grammy-winning jazz saxophonist Ernie Watts mixes flying fingers with masterful improvisations.
The following weekend, on Friday, May 15, 8:30 p.m., flutist and composer Lori Bell and pianist David Mackay weave elegant musical lines throughout each piece they present. On Saturday, May 16, 8:00 p.m., popular Music at the Court pianist Bill Cunliffe returns with a trio featuring fierce jazz, played with intensity and ease.
The Jazz Series continues through June 7 with Joe La Barbera and his quartet, the Wilder Trio, Renaissance, Rickey Woodard and Iron Mountain String Band.
Music at the Court concerts are held in Boston Court's Marjorie Branson Performance Space, an intimate and acoustically exquisite hall of warm woods and metal construction. All shows are $20 general admission, $15 senior/student for advanced tickets, and $25 general admission/$20 senior/student for tickets purchased at the door. The Music at the Court 2009 season continues with a Fall Classical Music Series (artists and dates to be announced).
