Rancho Cucamonga's MainStreet Theatre Company Announces Their 4th Season of Theatre for Young Audiences Productions at the Lewis Family Playhouse at Victoria Gardens Cultural Center
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 19, 2009
Rancho Cucamonga, CA – Rancho Cucamonga's MainStreet Theatre Company announced its fourth season of professional productions for young audiences - three more favorite tales for a variety of age groups; from Pirates to Princesses – with some zany fun added to the mix! The company performs at the beautiful 536-seat Lewis Family Playhouse at the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center, and is the only professional theatre company for young audiences in the Inland Empire. Subscriptions to all three productions as well as single tickets are now on sale.
The 09/10 season begins in September with "If You Give A Mouse a Cookie," based on the very popular picture book by Laura Joffe Numeroff adapted for the stage by Jody Davidson. As in the book, a young boy offers a cookie to a small mouse and chaos and calamity ensue! The play will be directed by John-David Keller, who has been directing shows for children at South Coast Repertory for years, as well as having a long acting career. MainStreet Theatre company audiences will remember him as the pessimistic earthworm in last season's "James and the Giant Peach." "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" will run from September 26 – October 10, 2009.
February will bring a smart, funny musical version of "Cinderella." But this isn't quite the Cinderella you think you know! In this clever adaptation, with book by Phylis Ward Fox and music and lyrics by David Coleman, the White Rabbit from "Alice in Wonderland" arrives on the scene just as Cinderella's fairy godmother is about to tell the audience the story of "Cinderella." Before he can get back to his own story, the quick thinking Fairy Godmother decides she can use a rabbit to rescue Cinderella from her stepmother. The witty book, tuneful score and this delightful twist to the classic fable makes it fun for the whole family. "Cinderella" will be directed by Mark Rucker, who directs at regional theatres nationwide and has directed two previous productions for the MainStreet Theatre Company. "Cinderella" will run from January 30 – February 13, 2010.
The last show of the 09/10 season is "Treasure Island." Adapted by Jonathon Bolt from the classic book by Robert Lewis Stevenson, the MainStreet Theatre Company's fast paced production will stay true to Stevenson's classic 1883 pirate tale in a compact one-hour version. Set out to sea with young Jim Hawkins on an adventure of a lifetime to the mysterious – and dangerous – Skeleton Island in search of the pirate treasure! "Treasure Island" will run from May 8 -22, 2010.
In its very first season, the Inland Empire Daily Bulletin stated "...this Actor's Equity Company brings a new meaning to quality family entertainment in the Inland Empire!" Now, three years later, the MainStreet Theatre Company has consistently delighted young audiences and their families with their productions. Each unique production will feature professional actors and dazzling design.
Tickets are priced at $16.50 for general admission, $14.50 for seniors and $13.50 for youth up to age 12. All of the MainStreet Theatre Company's public performances are matinees, to allow more families to come to the theatre together. Each show will run for 3 weekends for family audiences in addition to weekday matinees for school children throughout the region. Thanks to a generous donation by Target, all tickets for the first Saturday of each show's run has been designated "Target Family Weekend," with all tickets priced at the incredibly low price of only $8.00.
MainStreet Theatre Company subscribers can save 10 percent by subscribing to all three of the MainStreet Theatre Company shows. Each subscription includes one ticket to each of the three productions. Subscription rates are general: $40.00, senior: $35.00 and youth: $32.50. Target Family Weekend performances are not eligible.
