OPENING WEEKEND EVENTS IN FALL SERIES OF MUSIC AT THE COURT PRESENTS DANCE AND CLASSICAL MUSIC
PASADENA, Calif., October 3, 2008 – Music at the Court presents an exciting lineup of classical music and dance during the opening weekend in the Fall Series of the 2008 Music at the Court season at Boston Court Performing Arts Center, 70 North Mentor.
The series opens with Dance Dialogues, October 18, 8 p.m. when live music joins new choreography with some of the Southland's most celebrated artists. Dancers and choreographers include John Pennington, a Bella Lewitzky Dance Company performer and teacher, Paula Present, the artistic director of the award winning PTERO Dance Theatre, and Michael Szanyi, who has worked with the Pennington Dance Group, the Inland Pacific Ballet, and the Southern Nevada Youth Ballet. Musical collaborators include T.J. Troy, who uses an eclectic knowledge of percussion from around the world to create a distinct and powerful voice in the world of contemporary percussion, Tom Peters, a popular Music at the Court returning artist well known for his double bass and electronics, James Sullivan exhibiting the creative possibilities of the entire clarinet family, and flutist Sarah Wass who performs regularly with Los Angeles-based chamber ensembles Freshly Squeezed, inauthentica and the Los Angeles Wholesale Orchestra.
On October 19, 7 p.m., acclaimed pianist Ming Tsu collaborates with chamber music friends in a program titled "Music Without Borders," presenting new works by prominent young contemporary composers from Asia, Europe and the U.S. Ming Tsu is widely recognized as a soloist and collaborative pianist and she has performed in Europe, Asia, Mexico, Canada and the United States. Her guest artists include violinist Lorenz Gamma, an internationally active soloist, recitalist, chamber musician and teacher, and cellist Joon Sung Jun, professor and performer, lecturer, and teacher.
Music at the Court concerts are held in Boston Court's Marjorie Branson Performance Space, an intimate and acoustically exquisite hall of warm woods and metal construction. All shows are $25 general admission, $20 senior/student. A Series Pass can be purchased for $100 per person, which includes tickets to any five performances.
Music at the Court is a presentation of Boston Court Performing Arts Center under the leadership of Executive Director Michael Seel. Music at the Court talent producer is Mimi Champlin.
