WORLD PREMIERE OF "BLEED RAIL" OPENS MAY 12 AT BOSTON COURT

PASADENA, Calif., April 20, 2007 -- The Theatre @ Boston Court continues its fourth season with the world premiere of Mickey Birnbaum's "Bleed Rail," opening May 12, 8 p.m. on the Main Stage at Boston Court, 70 North Mentor Avenue.

"Bleed Rail," directed by Jessica Kubzansky, co-artistic director of The Theatre @ Boston Court, is a poignant, hilarious lament for a youthful generation for whom the American dream has become an unending nightmare. One man's desperate attempts to keep his slaughterhouse job, his girl, and his sanity are at the heart of this corrosive, darkly comic look at the bottom of the economic ladder, where meat is more valuable than people. You may never look at steak the same way again.

Members of the ensemble are Cyrus Alexander, Hugo Armstrong, Josh Clark, Dennis Flanagan and Lily Holleman.

Creative team includes Susan Gratch, scenic design, Robert Prior, costume design, Jeremy Pivnick, lighting design, John Zalewski, sound design, Robyn Taylor, props, Sheila Vand, assistant director, Michael Donovan, CSA, casting, Christopher Komuro, key art, and Rebecca Cohn, production stage manager.

Playwright Birnbaum's " Big Death & Little Death" inaugurated Woolly Mammoth's new Washington, DC, theatre in 2005, has been produced across the country, and premieres in Los Angeles this May at The Road Theatre. The play was nominated for a Helen Hayes Award and was a PEN USA Literary Award finalist. Birnbaum has written for the Virginia Avenue Project, a non-profit organization which matches playwrights and actors with at-risk children. As a screenwriter,he is adapting the novel "The High-Impact Infidelity Diet" for Warner Brothers, as well as developing an independent film with director Steven Shainberg. He is a founding member of Dog Ear, a local collective of nationally renowned playwrights (www.dogearplays.org).

Kubzansky, in addition to being the co-artistic director of The Theatre @ Boston Court, is an award-winning director who has worked around the country at venues such as South Coast Rep, the Geffen Playhouse, Portland Center Stage, the Boston Publick, and many others. She has directed a great many world premieres, and she received the 2004 LA Drama Critics Circle Margaret Harford Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatre.

"Bleed Rail" previews for six performances beginning May 3, opens May 12 and runs Thursdays to Sundays through June 17. Preview tickets are priced at $15 and regular performances cost $30. Senior and student discounts are also available. Tickets can be purchased online at bostoncourt.org or by calling (626) 683-6883. Boston Court is located one block north of Colorado at the corner of Mentor Ave. and Boston Ct. and offers free parking for patrons in the theatre's private lot.

"Bleed Rail" is supported in part by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, Founding Director Z. Clark Branson, and the generous contributions of The Theatre @ Boston Court supporters and patrons.
