PASADENA, Calif., March 1, 2007 -- Zebulon Projects presents an exciting lineup of jazz, classical, blues, folk and doo wop during the 2007 Music at the Court series at Boston Court performing arts complex, 70 North Mentor. Headliners include Ernie Watts, Paul Oscher, Iron Mountain String Band, Joe La Barbera, Bill Cunliffe, and The Mighty Echoes.
The series begins with contemporary classical guitarist John Schneider, March 4, 7 p.m. and a preview of the entire 2007 season is presented during the Boston Court-hosted Pasadena ArtNight, March 9, when an olio of artists showcasing the diversity of Zebulon's series will be presented every 40 minutes between 6 and 10 p.m.
Ernie Watts and his jazz quartet return to Zebulon's stage with their signature smooth and driving sound April 28, 8 p.m. and Paul Oscher, Muddy Waters alumni, brings his distinctive blues to the stage April 29, 7 p.m.
Pianist Larry Karush and his quartet return to deliver rhythmic and lush jazz June 9, 8 p.m., and Trimotif, a classical/jazz trio led by pianist and composer Bill Cunliffe, makes its Zebulon premiere June 10, 7 p.m.
Frequent Zebulon performer and classical contrabassist Tom Peters will presents his "Creation Series" July 14, 8 p.m., and will return with an entirely new program September 29, 8 p.m., and the Iron Mountain String Band performs a concert of traditional Appalachian music July 15, 7 p.m.
Popular folk duo Z. Clark Branson and Hobo Fred Starner team up for "The Tale's in the Tune" August 18, 8 p.m., violinist Shalini Vijayan performs August 19, 7 p.m., and joins with percussionist Lynn Vartan for a performance by their duo "61/4" October 21, 7 p.m.
Making his Zebulon debut, clarinetist James Sullivan presents both classical music and traditional European folk pieces September 30, 7 p.m.
Percussionist Joe La Barbera and his quintet present an evening of swinging, expansive jazz October 20, 8 p.m.
The powerful Mighty Echoes perform a capella Doo Wop October 27, 8 p.m. and then for a radical change of pace, contemporary classical pianist Ming Tsu presents "Music Without Borders," a program created for Zebulon and featuring Asian composers, October 28, 7 p.m.
As a prelude to a series for Zebulon in 2008, the Los Angeles Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of William Kraft, makes its first appearance at Boston Court November 10, 8 p.m. The season closes spectacularly with returning composer and jazz pianist Bill Cunliffe, by request classical and jazz, November 11, 7 p.m.
All Music at the Court concerts are held in Boston Court's Marjorie Branson Performance Space, an intimate and acoustically exquisite hall of warm woods and metal construction. Tickets for individual performances are available online at www.bostoncourt.org and range from $25 to $30, except Pasadena Art Night, which is free. Senior and student discounts are also available online.
Zebulon Projects is headed by raconteur and philanthropist Branson, who financed the Boston Court performing arts complex. Mimi Champlin is Zebulon's producer.
